Injectables

Are you looking to improve your facial aesthetics without undergoing surgery? Look no further than injectable medications! These non-invasive treatments have become increasingly popular for their ability to enhance appearances, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines. Here, we'll explore two of the most well-known injectable medications: Botox and Xeomin. Keep reading to learn how these treatments can help you achieve a more youthful look!

Injectables

Injectable medications are a type of cosmetic treatment that involves the injection of substances into specific areas of the face. These treatments help to reduce or eliminate wrinkles and fine lines, improve skin texture, and enhance facial contours.

Injectables fall under two main categories: neurotoxins and fillers. Neurotoxins like Botox and Xeomin work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles in the first place. This makes them an excellent choice for treating dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements such as frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead furrows.

While injectable medications may require several sessions over time for optimal results, they offer a less invasive alternative to surgery with minimal downtime. With proper care and maintenance, injectables can provide long-lasting improvements in your appearance without breaking the bank!

Wrinkle Relaxers

Denali Dental Care & Facial Aesthetics offers two different wrinkle relaxers: Xeomin and Botox. Your brain sends messages to your muscles to contract and move through acetylcholine and botulinum toxin A blocks the release of acetylcholine at the injection sites limiting skin wrinkling in those areas.

How they work: Wrinkle relaxers are injected into the facial muscles to relax the muscles and therefore improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Treatment areas:The most common areas to treat are the forehead, in between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. There are other areas that can be appropriate for treatment with wrinkle relaxers that your provider can discuss with you during your consultation.

Price: Botox and Xeomin-$15/unit

Age Requirement:18 years old

Contraindications:Wrinkle relaxers are contraindicated in the following patient populations:

  • Pregnant or lactating women

Patient’s with neurologic disorders including:

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig's Disease)
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Lambert Eaton Disorder
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson's disease

Before your appointment: We ask our patients to avoid blood thinning medications and supplements for two weeks prior to their treatment in order to decrease the likelihood of bruising. Avoiding alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to your appointment may also help decrease bruising.

Side effects, risks, and possible complications:Side effects of wrinkle relaxers are rare. The most common side effect is a transient headache post-injections. Temporary swelling and/or bruising can occur. There is also a risk of eyebrow or eyelid ptosis, however precautions are taken to avoid these complications.

After your appointment:We ask our patients to actively contract the muscles treated for an hour post-injections. Post-treatment instructions also include no vigorous rubbing or massaging of the area, no exercise, and remaining in an upright position for at least 6 hours after your injections.

Results:Results can be seen as early as 3 days post-treatment, but full results can take up to 14 days. The effects last approximately three months after a single treatment resulting in the smoothing of your skin and the improvement of fine lines and superficial wrinkles in your treatment area.  When the effects start wearing off, you will notice a gradual fading of its effects at which time you return for your next treatment.

What is Botox?

Botox, also known as onabotulinumtoxinA, is a non-surgical cosmetic injection that temporarily reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive movements like squinting and frowning. The injections relax the muscles that cause these wrinkles, causing the skin to smoothen out while reducing the prominence of these lines on the skin's surface.

When injected into the facial muscles responsible for creating wrinkles and fine lines, Botox temporarily paralyzes them, resulting in smoother skin on the surface. It's commonly used to treat horizontal forehead lines, crow's feet around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows.

It's important to note that while Botox may seem like a quick fix for aging skin, its effects are only temporary and typically last anywhere from three to six months. Additionally, it should always be administered by a licensed healthcare professional who has experience with injectable treatments.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an injectable, wrinkle-reducing treatment that erases fine lines and wrinkles. Xeomin works similarly to Botox Cosmetic. Xeomin is injected into the muscles of the face to relax them. This helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This medication is used to treat forehead wrinkles, crow's feet around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows. It works by relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles to form in the first place. The effects are not permanent and will need to be repeated every few months for the best results.

Many patients see the best results with a series of three treatments spaced about four weeks apart. Results can be seen within days of the first treatment, though the full results can take up to two weeks to become noticeable. Because it is safe to use on your face, there is little to no downtime needed after your appointment.

Compared to other cosmetic injectables, such as Botox and Dysport, Xeomin has fewer ingredients. This makes it easier to pinpoint the muscle activity that leads to lines and wrinkles so we can better target them with treatment. Most patients experience minimal discomfort after injection with Xeomin. With more targeted results, you are less likely to develop symptoms of injection-related pain, including swelling, bruising, headaches, or flu-like symptoms.

The active ingredient in Xeomin is incobotulinumtoxinA, which has been safely used for decades to treat a variety of medical conditions.

Xeomin is also FDA-approved for temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. It is best used on the upper part of your face, including the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. At-home kits may be used to treat crow's feet.

When used repeatedly over time, Xeomin can reduce and even prevent the formation of lines and wrinkles on your face. It can help you look younger and more refreshed by preventing contractions of your muscles that lead to deep-set wrinkles.
