Protect Your Smile With Regular Checkups

A preventive approach to your oral care helps you maintain a beautiful, healthy smile. This combines your consistent at-home hygiene practices with routine dental visits to clean your teeth and gums. Each time you visit our office, we will also thoroughly examine your smile for any signs of existing harm and provide restorative services when needed. Waiting for painful symptoms to appear before scheduling an appointment can mean it is too late to provide more conservative treatment, so please do not put off scheduling a checkup!

How Often Should I Schedule A Cleaning & Exam?

We typically recommend visiting every six months to receive your examination and cleaning. This schedule allows us to detect most oral threats before they become severe and provide you with timely care. Depending on your unique circumstances, we may suggest a different schedule at times. For example, if you are currently fighting gum disease, we may want to see you three or four times per year.

What To Expect During Your Appointment

Your dental checkup begins with a cleaning to protect your smile against tooth decay and gum infection. Your hygienist will remove all plaque and tartar deposits on the surface of your teeth to help preserve your enamel. While your daily brushing and flossing habit is critical to stopping decay, we have special tools to remove deposits that you cannot handle on your own. This is one of the reasons we suggest visiting regularly.

After your cleaning, your dentist will inspect your teeth, gums, and other oral structures for signs of any change since your last visit. When you attend checkups semiannually, this creates a dental record to help us quickly identify any issues that require further treatment. Certain problems, such as minor cavities, can be treated during your visit, while we may schedule a follow-up appointment for other concerns.
