Not everyone needs to have their wisdom teeth extracted, but we can normally tell when someone will benefit from the procedure before they need to have it done. If your dentist recommends having your wisdom teeth out, it’s usually best to listen. Even if you don’t have any symptoms now, problems can crop up when they’re least convenient.
That’s what 22-year-old singer-songwriter sensation Dua Lipa found out when wisdom tooth problems forced her to cancel two tour dates where she was scheduled to open for Bruno Mars in Brisbane last week.
Complications Can Stop You Mid-Stride
Dua Lipa may have sung “IDGAF” to her ex, but an impacted wisdom tooth is not so easy to dismiss. She had been singing, but as she reported she was in intense pain, and she could no longer go on. In addition, her dentist and oral surgeon advised her that she should get her wisdom teeth removed right away.
When you experience extreme pain from your wisdom teeth, you shouldn’t put it off any longer. You should consider it an emergency. That level of pain may indicate an infection. An infected tooth can endanger your other teeth and can spread infection throughout your body. Other signs that you might have an infected wisdom tooth include:
- Foul breath or bad taste in mouth
- Pimple-like sores on the gums
- Spontaneous bleeding or bleeding when you brush or floss
If you have one or more of these symptoms, it’s time to drop what you’re doing and see your dentist.
So that’s what Dua Lipa did. She may have established some “New Rules” for herself, but, unfortunately, some old rules still apply. The good news is that although she canceled two shows, she was back singing with Bruno Mars by the 20th.
Take Care of Wisdom Teeth before Symptoms Appear
When you’re first told that your wisdom teeth are going to cause problems, it can be easy to ignore the warning, but you shouldn’t. Although you don’t have symptoms now, they can creep up on you when you least expect them. And then when they do, you might not have the option of postponing treatment. You might have to do it right away, no matter what else you may have planned.
